Farmers from Tamil Nadu on Wednesday adopted a unique method to get their demands met. A protestor tried to climb the mobile tower. Their demand was for better prices for crops and linking of rivers. A top Delhi Police official said several farmers from Tamil Nadu gathered at Jantar Mantar, some of whom tried to climb nearby trees and one a mobile tower. He told that the police used the fire brigade’s crane to lower one of these farmers from the mobile tower to the ground.
New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Devesh Kumar Mahala said that about 50 people have come from Tamil Nadu demanding interlinking of rivers. Two of them tried to climb the mobile tower, but did not succeed. Some protesters tried to climb trees. A senior Delhi Fire Service official said that they received a call about the protest and they reached the spot with a sky lift and removed the farmers from the mobile tower.
The protesting farmers said that about 100 farmers from Tamil Nadu took part in the protest. Farmers said that they are demanding doubling of their income from agricultural produce, pension of Rs 5,000, personal insurance and linking of all the rivers of India. He told that if his demands are not met then he will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi parliamentary constituency against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
